Happy 2024!

Does ANYONE find New Year’s resolutions helpful?

They’ve never been my thing. I feel like I set myself up for failure.

And who needs that?

I’m more of a year-round goal-setting person in a constant state of self-evaluation and course correction.

Also - I would be hard-pressed to add another hyphenated word to the statement above. Which is why I added it here. Tee hee.

Leave it to Helen Keller to provide a reasonable resolution, as well as darn good advice!

Let’s Talk About Rugs

NEVER take rugs for granted!

We use them to add personality to our homes; as safety in slick, wet spaces; cover imperfections in our floors (🙋🏻‍♀️); as sound-proofing; and - for a subset of the population - as toupees!

Rugs are second only to lighting in my personal decorating playbook.

Which really isn’t impressive - TBH.

Mix-Tape Must-have

ANY song by A Tribe Called Quest is super cool. True story.

The rhythm (obviously). The jazz-infused hip hop (of which they were pioneers).

Those rhymes though!

What does A Tribe Called Quest have to do with rugs? Funny you should ask!

“. . . wipe your feet really hard on the rhythm rug.”

Genius!

“. . . a box of positives is a plus love . . .”

Positively genius! (See what I did there?)

Cut a Rug

“Cut a rug” is one of the most familiar idioms in the English language.

It means “to dance.” Which probably isn’t a big surprise. Specifically, it means to dance energetically.

Must it be energetic?

Yep! Technically, and in the spirit of its genesis.

The phrase originated in the 1930s and 40s from the dance craze known as the jitterbug, which was SOOOO energetic that dancers would inadvertently cut holes in the rugs they danced on.

Rugs feature heavily in more idioms, like “rug rats”; “pull the rug out from under me/you/someone”; and “lie like a rug”.

The BEST rug rats are THE Rugrats!

Fun Fact: Rugrats (the cartoon) is 33 years old!

Palette

I want a rug just like this. The bigger, the better!

Corny Joke

My 2024 corny joke game is STRONG!

A GIF that keeps on GIFing

He’s only happy because he’s not up to his knees in cold slush.

There’s no GIF that depicts what we had yesterday. Not that I could find.

If YOU come across one, please share!

This is an actual image of ME from yesterday.

Ok. I lied. This is how I FELT walking in the cold, slushy mess yesterday.

But it IS an actual photo of a sad snowman.
