Pair of Wooden Backpack Frames

$250.00
sold out

Condition: Pre-owned - Excellent

Dimensions: 28” x 14.75” x 15”

These vintage wooden backpack frames are incredibly cool! I would generally try to find a more interesting adjective, but “cool” just works. They look like something trapper or hiker would have worn 75 years ago.

Interestingly, this type of backpack wasn’t designed for/by either type of adventurer. It was designed and patented in 1886 by the U.S. Army’s Colonial Merriam as an alternative to the traditional knapsacks that were carried by soldiers in the field. You can learn more about the history of the backpack - and the controversy surrounding that history - HERE.

These frames are only slightly different, as can be seen in the photos. The straps, hardware, and wood are all in amazing shape!

The shipping fee is just an estimate, and likely to seem a bit high. We will refund any shipping over-payment greater than $2.00 over the actual shipping/handling expense. But if you have paid less than the actual cost of shipping, you will not be charged the delta.
