Papryophilia

For the love of paper.

Call me old-fashioned (or just old), but I love paper. All things paper.

Not reams of printer paper. Although they are undeniably useful and teeming with possibility.

I love paper that has been printed with wonderful things . . . newspapers, letters, greeting cards, stamps, paper dolls, playing cards, coloring books, origami paper, magazines, junk mail (even bills!), books, postcards, maps, stickers, catalogues, photos, wallpaper, Yahtzee scorecards . . .

Let’s go ahead and omit toilet paper, paper towels, and Kleenex (unless they’ve been printed with something).

Vintage Mail

I could read a book on my iPad, but I prefer to read a printed copy.

I could send an e-greeting to my mother on her birthday, but I prefer to mail an actual card. Preferably a Hallmark card. (Because Wertz’s News & Gifts)

Why? Because paper is ultimately savable. In ways that an archived email is not.

This week, we celebrate paper.

I am not alone! Read THIS article about the love of stationery products.

Quote

A lovely quote.

Also a lovely endorsement for journaling.

Mix-Tape Must-Have

Because Roy Orbison’s “Pretty Paper” is a technically Christmas song . . .

That’s just a stack of joy right there!

Ok. This one is actually funny.

Vintage Pattern

Butterick 5751, 1969: Missus’ Jumpsuit, Skirt & Sash

I can’t NOT post a sewing pattern, given that my obsession with them is fairly well-documented.

I have a strong suspicion that this calls for polyester fabric. Which means that this is a gorgeous concept solely in its illustration.

The foreground version is awesome. She looks like a boho art teacher or dance instructor.

The GIF that keeps on GIFing

We sell a LOT of paper stuff at the Mercantile.

We have hand-made greeting cards; vintage books and magazines; paper for junk journals and card-making…

C’mon in and take a look. We promise not to dump it on you Harry Potter style!
